Jetpack is a collection of 10 ActiveX controls designed to enhance any VB5 or VB6 database application with minimal effort and very little coding. For example, adding the table design control to your form at design time, setting a few properties and a single line of code gives you all the functionality needed to create or modify a Jet database table including fields, indexes, properties and attributes.
Other controls in Jetpack include graphical query builder; organising tables between databases; compact, repair and conversion; data import/export for ODBC, Jet MDB, dBase, FoxPro, Paradox, Excel, Text, and SQL server; record searching; data form editing; automatic report generation.
The Jetpack product is the end result of many years of development that has gone into making QUERYer, our other popular database management tool.
The Jetpack controls are 'light-weight' ocx controls that are added individually to your application as needed. They all use a run-time dll which contains the bulk of the code - this avoids a lot of duplication. Alternatively the Jetpack controls are available individually. As separate controls they do not require a run-time dll, but individually are larger in size.
Jetpack comes with extensive VB sample code to demonstrate all of its features.

Suggested Brief Program Description:
Jetpack is a collection of 10 ActiveX controls designed to enhance any Visual Basic 5 or 6 database application with minimal effort and very little coding. Features include a Visual Queryer, Table designer, Import/Export, Find Record, Database maintenance, Database Organiser, and more...
Unlike conventional controls that are painted onto a form and integrated into the rest of an application, the Jetpack controls (most of them) are not visible at run-time. A Jetpack control's functionality tend to be of a higher-order. For example, adding the Table Design control to your form at design time, setting a few properties and a single line of code gives you all the functionality needed to create or modify a Jet database table including fields, indexes, properties and attributes.
GENERAL INFORMATION
-------------------
This is a time-stamped evaluation version of Jetpack. A message box reporting the number of evaluation days elapsed since installation will be displayed at run-time whenever a Jetpack control is used in an application.
Unlike many evaluation versions of OCXs, you can actually compile the Jetpack controls. Once you purchase the licenced version of Jetpack and install it, you open each application that uses the evaluation version and recompile the exe. The evaluation controls will be automatically upgraded to the licenced versions and the nag screens go away forever.
Migrating from the evaluation to licenced version does NOT require any changes to your code.
INSTALLATION
------------
The evaluation version of these controls are installed and registered in the installation directory. There is no need to copy them to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
The licenced version of these controls are installed and registered in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. After the installation of the licenced version any evaluation version files can be safely deleted.
The installation file has command line options that can be used to test the installation script and to install this software manually. This is useful for a number of reasons. For example installing to a network version of Windows can cause problems if the user does not have write privileges to some of the Windows directories. Using Manual Mode installation allows you to nominate alternative directories.
The following installation modes are available:
Test Mode - /T
When you run the installation executable with the /T command line option, the installation script will be tested. Although the installation will look the same, no changes to your system will be made. No files will be copied and no INI or Program Manager changes will be made. This mode is useful when testing an installation before any files are copied.
Manual Mode - /M
The /M option runs the installation in manual mode. You will be prompted for the locations of your Windows, System, and Temp directories. You can specify any directories, if they do not exist they will be created. Any changes to INI files will be saved into the Windows directory you specify. With this option you can have the installation run without installing any files into your real Windows and System directory. You can then manually copy the files to their proper destination.
Extract Mode - /X & /Z
If you run the installation executable with the /X option, a list of the files contained will be displayed. You can select some of the files to extract them from the installation. This can be used if the files have been deleted or corrupted on the destination computer. This also can be used by BBS sysops to scan certain files for a virus without installing them. If you place a directory name after the /X option, all of the files in the installation will be extracted into the specified directory. The /Z performs the same function as the /X option except that Windows is exited after the files are extracted.
Silent Mode - /S
The /S option runs the installation in silent mode. The background gradient is not displayed and the progress bar is not shown. Messages or prompts that your installation uses will not be displayed. The default values of all variables will be used during the installation. This is useful in networked environments for background installations.
For example to install Jetpack in manual mode:
select Run on the Start Button and enter: Jet60jpe.EXE /M
